Welcome to ninth grade English Summer reading. I have selected two books for you to choose from. However, I encourage you to consider reading additional books of your choice. If you would like to take English for honor's credit, you will need to read a third book over the summer. Please check with me if you have a title in mind.
The first I have selected is The Last Book in the Universe by Rodman Philbrick. It is a futuristic novel about a time of chaos and corruption. It was well liked by many students that read it last summer. It is a quick read. If you would like to supplement the reading with and MP3 download, I have created a podcast for each chapter. It can be found at http://jencarbonneau.podomatic.com/.
The second book that you may have selected is Downriver by Will Hobbs. It is an adventure story that takes you on a journey down the Colorado River with a bunch of kids that have made some choices to try it on their own. "What will be the consequences of their reckless adventure?"
I will help with any questions or concerns through the use of this blog. I encourage you to contribute your thouts and ideas as responses to the blog posts that I add throughout the summer. These posts and sharing of ideas will help you with the piece off writing that you will need to compose when you return in September.
Enjoy your readings and keep me posted!
